If you’ve ever seen my videos or read my tips, then you know that I always favor visible and accessible storage solutions, for all ages. The 3-Tier Rolling Cart from the container store is a great example. The fact that it’s rolling adds to its portability, which is essential to homes temporarily using the dining room table for arts and crafts.

Packaging and assembly

Let’s take a deeper dive into the specifics of the 3-Tier Cart. The convenience of the cart begins at purchase- you can order the cart online to be delivered to your home or you can pick it up at your closest Container Store. The cart is efficiently packaged in a nice compact box, which makes it easy to handle independently. The efficient packaging also means that you will need to do some minor assembly, as it comes in parts. The simple, step-by-step instructions make it a breeze to assemble in a matter of minutes.

Proportions and purpose

One thing that I love about the cart is its proportions. The proportions offer vertical storage, but not too much. That is, there is enough space in between each of the three tiers to look down on and to access contents. It really shines in the storage of vertical items and in sorting smaller items. You can also store flat items like pads and notebooks, but you have to give up an entire tier.

Colors and accessories

Another perk of the 3-tier rolling cart is that it is offered in a wide variety of colors and the accessory containers are offered in many size variations. These options allow you to customize your cart to your likes and needs. One thing to note is that the containers do not come in a wide variety of colors, only white and translucent.

Customization

Once you’ve selected the containers that you’d like to use with your cart, it’s time for the fun part! Now you can play around with how you want to set your cart up to best suit your needs. You can experiment with which containers are best for which purpose. I find the most useful container sizes to be the ones that support the vertical storage and the smaller ones that allow for the most subdivisions. I think the least useful sizes are the larger containers. I don’t know what you could put in these large containers. Maybe cans of Play-Doh or other larger crafts. However, keep in mind that the larger containers limit your use of other containers.

Versatility

You can also combine school supply storage with the 3-Tier Cart Mini Divided Caddies with Handles, which can easily be lifted in and out of the cart using the handle. I like the portability feature of this divided caddy. You can move all vertical supplies onto a table in just one move, then return it to the cart just as easily. This is a huge time saver.

I find there is a tendency to hide arts & crafts and school supplies away in an effort to control a mess in the dining room. When this happens, the more items get forgotten and the less often they get used. Over time the supplies accumulate as new, often unnecessary purchases are added. For something that gets used so often and is so potentially messy, I think that the 3-Tier Cart is a much better option for arts and crafts and school supply storage. Its contents are highly visible, accessible and portable. It looks organized and I think that looks beautiful.

Could your craft supply organization use a refresh?
