This may seem counter-priority, but they recognized that there were certain areas in the pantry and other areas of the house that could be relocated to garage storage if they opened up space there first. There were many items in the garage that were low priority and could be purged quickly. The pantry is now a dedicated space for food. It is more visible and accessible, saving time in finding things quickly and reliably.
